Energy

Large-scale and emerging energy projects across the Greater Whitsunday region are powering on with 16 existing projects in Mackay Isaac Whitsunday and many more in the pipeline.

From solar, bagasse and waste coal mine gas, these types of energy have an overall capacity of close to 800 megawatts (MW). Many of these projects are leading the way in renewable energy and establishing the Greater Whitsunday region as a place of high quality, energy resources working together in emerging and established industries.

Collinsville Solar Power Station, Daydream Solar Farm, Middlemount Sun Farm and Whitsunday Solar Farm represent some of Queensland’s largest solar energy producers. Farleigh, Marian, Plane Creek, Proserpine and Racecourse mills produce electricity from cane fibre, while there are two waste coal mine gas projects at German Creek and Moranbah North.

There are also 20 proposed projects in the region from solar, wind and pumped hydro energy types and one wind project under construction – Clarke Creek Wind and Solar Farm Stage 1.
