Data plus visibility equals greater success.
When it comes to data, we often associate it with statistics, analysis, and calculation – but its power is all in the interpretation.
Queensland company, INTELICS is changing the way data is used, simply by integrating it into operations to make it more visible.
INTELICS develops practical software solutions for managing industrial workplaces.
As a Queensland born and bred industrial software company, it has been providing software solutions to mining companies for eight years, with offices in Mackay and Brisbane.
Earlier this year INTELICS was named in the Core Innovations Hub Hot 30 Awards. The Hot 30 Awards recognises 30 businesses that have harnessed smart technology and innovation to shape the future of the mining, energy and resources sectors. INTELICS commercial Manager Mr Dan Dennis said their custom software creates systems for efficient business, equipment, and staff management.
“We are a local software company, that supports industrial software for mining companies.”
When asked what industrial software is, Dan explained it was for large businesses such as mining companies or large industrial firms that have different problems compared to other commercial businesses – in essence they have unique data sets.
“Because they are unique, they need custom solution,” Dan said.
A data set is a collection of related sets of information that is composed of separate elements that can be controlled as a unit by a computer.
Utilising his background in the mining industry Dan has been able to lead much of the project work with INTELICS, leaning into his degree in science and mathematics to manage their data science and problem solving.
Dan said INTELLICS supports clients in two specific growth areas.
“The first being productivity and companies are finding that some of the old tools they are using are no longer relevant.
“The tools were probably good in their day, but you can be more productive by digitalising and upgrading your technology.
The other growth area is leveraging collected data.
“Companies are sitting on large data sets that they can leverage some value from, and they might not have the skills to manage or process that data.”
And it is these two areas where most of INTELICS conversations start, to support companies make the most of their data.
“Data is very subjective, you can have two companies with the same data sets, it may be valuable to one, but not another.
Dan said it was integral to find the right way to bring the data to life and his INTELICS team is leading the way when it comes to problem solving, software systems.
“Instead of just tucking data away into a database that can’t been seen, you can pull it out and bring it into dashboards and provide it to people.
“There are the smart people within those companies, once that data is visible, they then garner ideas on how to extract extra value from that.
“So even just presenting and cleaning the data and making it visual makes all the difference to individual company’s innovation pathway,” Dan said.
