New director appointed to Greater Whitsunday Alliance board
Mackay businessman John Fordyce has been appointed as a director to the Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) board.
Mr Fordyce joins GW3 Chairperson Mr John Glanville and seven other directors on the board to guide the strategic outcomes for the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday economic development organisation.
GW3 Chairperson Mr John Glanville said Mr Fordyce was a great addition to the GW3 board and bring with him years of commercial and governance experience.
Mr Fordyce replaces Whitsunday businessman Mr Al Grundy who stood down from the board after being elected to the Whitsunday Regional Council.
“When the vacancy re-emerged for a GW3 director, John was a natural choice, given his long-term connection to the region and industry bodies in both a professional and personal capacity.
“John has extensive connection with the region through his work efforts in the training and management support industries,” said Mr Glanville.
Mr Glanville said it was important that GW3 board remains fresh and dynamic and offers a broad range of experience and regional representation.
“John enhances the make-up of the GW3 board in both regards,” he said.
Mr Fordyce spent 20 years with not for profit company MRAEL and was appointed General Manager in 2000.
During this time, he helped grow the organisation from a local enterprise into an organisation with a national footprint engaged in national and international business activities.
Recently he has served as a director on the boards of MRAEL Limited, Australian Skills Institute and Australian Trade College, while working as a consultant in his own business specialising in corporate governance, strategy and performance.
“As a ‘born and bred’ local, I have an intimate knowledge of our region and I am passionate about promoting prosperity across the broader region.”
Mr Fordyce said some of his greatest achievements came about through his ability to build relationships, engage stakeholders and work closely with others to achieve set objectives.
“My experience working across the resources, heavy industry and agricultural sectors has provided me with an understanding of the economic opportunities and challenges that face the region into the future.
“I am looking forward to working with the GW3 board and staff to grow and lead the MIW region into a strong and exciting chapter,” he said.
Greater Whitsunday Alliance is the region’s peak, independent economic development body committed to making the Mackay, Isaac, Whitsunday region strong for generations.
