Region champions transformation through new digital platform

Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) is leading the way to showcase Mackay Isaac Whitsunday (MIW) as a region tackling head on the challenges and opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

To better prepare its 170,000 plus regional population, GW3 will launch the Transformation Region digital platform with a virtual summit on July 29.

GW3 Chief Executive Officer Ms Kylie Porter said Transformation Region was created to showcase the MIW region’s examples of transformative practices and how the region’s businesses, industries and communities are embracing transformational change.

“This platform will not just offer insight into exactly what 4IR is but also highlight what it means for our community; what skills you are going to need to keep up with the pace of change and where the jobs of the future in MIW will be.

Transformation Region is designed to take you on a journey of discovery about the exciting future in store for Mackay Isaac Whitsunday.”

Ms Porter said the platform will explore some of our region’s best-case examples of businesses embracing technology and transformation.

“The Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region has a rich history of embracing change, out-of-the-box thinking and a passionate can-do attitude”, Ms Porter said.

“This region has been producing ethanol from sugar cane for over 93 years and was easily able to ramp up production during the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our mining and METS sector is filled with award winning innovators like Ryan Norris from Vayeron with their wireless, internal-to-the-roller condition monitoring sensor device and countless other examples of agriculture producers who are actively embracing ag-tech to improve productivity and environmental outcomes.

“With the Fourth Industrial Revolution upon us, now is the time to celebrate and highlight these achievements and build on our region’s amazing transformation credentials to build a strong, future-proofed economy.

GW3 is launching the platform with a virtual summit, which will feature five presentations, all available in your browser and on-demand.

Ms Porter said keynote speaker and international futurist Anders Sorman -Nilsson will deliver the keynote presentation: Exponential times of change requires exponential thinking.

“Anders is well known to audiences in the MIW region and will discuss how COVID-19 has compressed 10 years’ worth of change into a single year - 2020.”

Joining the list of Summit presentations include leading global company KPMG which will dissect the reality from the hype when it comes to the future of work in MIW; along with Challenging Industry Mindsets with the Resource Centre of Excellence and a health and community sector panel who bust the myth that digital technology can lead to greater social isolation.

“The content and case studies that will be uploaded and featured on Transformation Region will showcase how our community and industry are embracing new technologies and how our region is changing the narrative of what the future of work is,” Ms Porter said.
