GW3 has identified five strategic and interconnected accelerators that exist across all industry sectors and will deliver economic growth when maximised.

Shifting roles, emerging industries.

The Greater Whitsunday region has a workforce of more than 97,000 which will continue to shift between different roles across traditional and emerging industries.

As our region continues to unlock the future of our workforces, people will be at the heart of change. People are our greatest asset adapting their skills and expertise as the digital world continues to revolutionise the nature of jobs.

Future Workforce Initiatives.

The region is backed by a series of ten iconic initiatives identified in the Greater Whitsunday Workforce Development Playbook. The playbook will not only support our region to grow and thrive but also provide innovative and disruptive solutions to workforce attraction and retention; reskilling and meeting the emerging workforce needs.

Growing our own workforce.

Ensuring the next generation are well equipped when entering the workforce, it is important to continue to grow skills and build a comprehensive understanding of the career opportunities in the region. The Greater Foundations programs aimed at improving educators’ knowledge of the wide range of career opportunities available in the region.

Preparing an emerging sector workforce.

With a changing economic and technological landscape and new industries, it is important to prepare for an emerging workforce. GW3 is working to identify the skills needs and training gaps for emerging sectors, such as aquaculture, aerospace, biomanufacturing and digital.

Evolving our current workforce.

Evolution is critical to ensure the region’s workforce keeps up with the changing economic landscape and continues to deliver positive results. GW3 secured grant funding to run the Greater Digital Skills Program, focused on upskilling businesses with critical digital skills to address key workforce challenges.

The keys to unlock your potential.

The future has already arrived, and the challenge for our region is to create the best opportunity for our people to have rewarding careers, that foster economic growth.

And the key to a dynamic, responsive, and capable workforce is to harness and redirect people’s skills to meet the demands of industries today for tomorrow.

When it comes to greater possibilities, you can be what you can’t see. We’re giving our workforce the keys to unlock their potential to meet the demands for new skill sets and job roles.
