From paddock to plate.

The Greater Whitsunday region’s beef industry has a herd of about 1 million head of cattle and accounts for about 40% of the region’s agricultural output. The industry is mature and well established, with more than 850 beef cattle businesses in the region.

About 600 of those are specialised beef cattle farms. With a regional export value of $627 million, and enough cattle to make up about 9.7% of the total Queensland Beef Cattle herd, Greater Whitsunday’s beef industry is high-volume. Not only is the volume of beef produced here of a high volume, but so too is the number of animals that pass through the region enroute to market.

While the Isaac region is home to most of the region’s larger cattle-producing operations, the Mackay area has more agribusinesses with smaller herd sizes.
