Powering Communities, Energising the Future

Isaac Regional Council is committed to building long-term, sustainable futures for its communities. Covering 58,709 square kilometers in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, Isaac is a region that feeds, powers, and builds for today and the future.

Formed in 2008 through the amalgamation of the Belyando, Broadsound, and Nebo shires, Isaac is home to 17 diverse communities. From bustling mining towns to scenic coastal and rural areas, the region supports a permanent population of 22,500, alongside 13,000 fly-in/fly-out and drive-in/drive-out workers.

While mining remains a key driver of Isaac’s economy, the region’s top employment sectors also include accommodation and food services, education, retail, and public administration. Tourism plays a vital role in the local economy, with visitors drawn to the region’s stunning natural attractions, including National Parks, State Forests, and the iconic Peak Ranges—part of the world’s longest continental volcanic chain.

Isaac offers a range of outback activities, with visitors flocking to its bush sports, cultural events, and culinary experiences throughout the year. Whether for work or leisure, Isaac is a region where industry, community, and nature come together.
