the Greater Careers Connect Mentoring Program

Greater Careers Connect program bridges the gap between study and work by connecting students with regional employers at the start of their qualification, giving early exposure to real career opportunities and practical insight into workplace opportunities and career pathways.

Greater Careers Connect — led by the Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) and funded through the Queensland Government’s Workforce Participation Fund — will be delivered between April and July 2026. The program connects students across Queensland with employers in the Greater Whitsunday Region’s priority and emerging industries, including health, digital technologies, renewable energy, biomanufacturing, and advanced agriculture.

The initiative aims to support first-year students through real-world mentoring and direct industry exposure— helping them make informed career choices, stay motivated, and build stronger career readiness.

Online Forum

An Online Career Forum focused on Greater Whitsunday career opportunities, bringing together employers, training providers and industry experts to showcase real career pathways, current job opportunities, in demand skills and future workforce needs.

Structured Mentoring and Career Development

📅 When: June – July 2026 📍 Where: Online

Online Networking and Group mentoring:

A virtual networking experience where students can meet local employers, ask real questions, gain industry insights and start building connections that can lead to future work opportunities.

Helps participants clarify their career goals by identifying interests, and long-term objectives through guided discussions with mentors and peers.

What is Greater Career Connect (GCC)?

GCC is a free program designed to help students discover exciting career opportunities in industries in the Greater Whitsunday Region like: * Biomanufacturing * Advanced agriculture * Mining * Construction * Aerospace * Health * Digital technologies * Renewable energy * Aquaculture * Education. These industries are growing fast, and GCC connects you with mentors, employers, and real-world insights so you can make informed career choices and stand out to future employers.

What does the program offer?

Meet industry mentors who know what it takes to succeed. Explore career pathways in high-demand fields. Build your network with employers and peers. Get guidance to make confident career decisions.

What is group mentoring?

Group mentoring = Learning together! You’ll join a small group of students for 4 online sessions with an industry mentor. It’s a mix of expert advice, peer support, and practical tips to help you plan your career.

Who is it for?

If you want career guidance from real industry experts, like learning with others and value networking and accountability …then group mentoring is perfect for you!

How is group mentoring different from 1:1 mentoring?

Group mentoring = shared learning, diverse perspectives, and community support. 1:1 mentoring = more personalised, but less group interaction.

How big are the groups?

Groups are intentionally kept small to ensure meaningful interaction, individual attention, and a safe space for discussion. Exact group size may vary.

Is it free?

Yes! GCC is 100% free, funded by the Queensland Government.

Can I use it on my phone?

Absolutely. The platform works on any browser, including mobile.

What happens during the sessions?

Sessions typically include; Industry driven discussion and types of jobs explored within the field – led by the mentor, Group Q&A, Shared challenges and real examples, Action steps or reflection exercises. The format may vary depending on the session topic.

How long is the program?

4 sessions over 5 months. You’ll get the full schedule before you start.

Are sessions live or recorded?

Mostly live (so you can interact), but recordings may be available if you miss one.

Can I ask questions specific to my situation?

Yes. While the mentoring is delivered in a group setting, participants are encouraged to bring their own questions and challenges to the sessions.

What if I miss a session?

If recordings are provided, you’ll be able to catch up. However, attending live is strongly recommended to get the most value from group discussion and interaction.

Is group mentoring confidential?

Yes. All participants are expected to respect confidentiality and create a safe, supportive environment for open discussion.

How do I know if this is the right fit for me?
