NORTH GAILILEE BASIN RAIL (NGBR) CARMICHAEL RAIL PROJECT
Construction of a 100 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) capacity standard gauge rail line branching off a narrow gauge line in the vicinity of Mistake Creek & trending north-south for 300km approx to the Abbot Point coal terminal complex. Trackwork to include passing loops, sidings, signalling & communications. Associated temporary construction infrastructure expected to include laydown areas, depots (administration, warehousing, fuel & vehicle storage and so on), sleeper manufacturing yards, quarries, borrow pits & access tracks. Permanent infrastructure likely to include rolling stock maintenance facilities, provisioning & marshalling yards, fuel storage & transportation facilities including maintenance access tracks. Water supply options include local creeks/river, construction of bores, enlarging existing dams or tankering from nearby towns. Peak construction workforce of 3800 staff to be housed in temporary camps & driven to/from work daily.
