OLIVE DOWNS JOINT VENTURE COAL PROJECT
The proposed action will be a truck & shovel operated open cut coal mine. There will be between two & six open cut pits developed, depending on economic & design constraints, & initial box cut overburden material to be hauled to out of pit overburden dumps & used in flood mitigation levees. As mining progresses & sufficient room becomes available, overburden will be dumped in the mined out pit areas. The proposed mine is expected to produce approximately 7.5 million tonnes (initial 4.5mt) of multi product coal, for export markets. The average annual raw coal output is expected to be up to one million tonnes per annum, with up to 750,000 tonnes of product coal to result following processing. The anticipated mine life is now 79 years. The main features of the project are: The initial development of the coal deposit, followed by onging mining operations; The construction of:- (1) flood control levees adjacent to mining pits to prevent ingress of floodwaters to pit operations from the surrounding watercourses; (2) topsoil stockpiles; haul roads; (3) water supply infrastructure; (4) run-of-mine (ROM) coal stockpiles; (5) overburden dumps; (6) offices; (7) lunch rooms; (8) communication systems; (9) electricity supply; (10) access roads; (11) ablution facilities; (12) potable water supply facilities including construction of a 23km water supply pipeline from the southern extension of the Eungella water pipeline; (13) workshops & fuel storage & distribution facilities.
