SYDNEY AND RIVER STREET INTERSECTION AND BLUEWATER TRAIL UPGRADE

Sydney & River Street Intersection improvement works. This project focusses on improving the connectivity for active transport users, including pedestrians & cyclists, on the principal cycle network between the Bluewater Trail and Bluewater Quay. Scope of work comprises: upgrades to the Bluewater Trail shared path on River Street between Wood & Sydney Streets, through the implementation of a new 3m shared path including improved access through the Pioneer levee; upgrades to adjacent footpath connections. Upgraded pedestrian refuge and connection point from Wood Street to the Bluewater Trail. Landscaping works & amenity upgrades to the parkland area including drinking fountains, new seating, rubbish bins, pathway lighting, decorative feature lighting & plantings. Relocation of streetlights & associated infrastructure along with upgrades of shared path and security lighting in the area. Kerb realignment and associated pavement resurfacing works on the north west & south east corners of the Sydney & River Street intersection. Widening of the footpath on the southern side of River Street between Sydney & Wood Streets. Renewal of the aged pathways, providing increased pedestrian capacity, amenity improvements and associated drainage upgrades. Two car parks permanently removed on River Street between Sydney & Wood Streets and the loading zone/taxi zone on Sydney Street repositioned to the south to facilitate footpath widening & drainage improvements.
