The 2026 Decarbonisation Benchmarking Survey is now open, giving businesses across Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday the chance to share where they are now, what challenges they are facing and what support they need to stay competitive.

Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) is aiming to hear from at least 100 businesses before the survey closes on August 11, with responses already nearing the halfway mark.

Whether a business has a detailed sustainability strategy, has only just started the conversation or has not yet taken action, every response matters.

GW3 Decarbonisation and Biomanufacturing Project Coordinator Georgia Lavers said the survey was an opportunity for local businesses to influence what comes next.

“Decarbonisation is no longer something happening on the horizon. It is already changing how businesses compete, win work, attract investment and participate in major supply chains,” Ms Lavers said.

“For regional businesses, understanding emissions, sustainability expectations and changing procurement requirements can help protect existing work and unlock new opportunities.

“This is a chance for businesses to have a direct say in the support, tools and programs that will help our region move forward.”

Now in its third year, the survey tracks changes in business awareness, readiness and action across the Greater Whitsunday region.

The results will help GW3 and its partners identify where businesses are progressing, where barriers remain and where practical support can make the greatest difference.

“We want to understand what is happening on the ground — what businesses are already doing, what is holding them back and what would help them take the next step.

“The stronger the response, the clearer the picture and the better equipped we will be to deliver support that reflects the real needs of local industry.”

As governments, investors, customers and major contractors place greater emphasis on sustainability performance, emissions reduction is increasingly becoming part of everyday business.

The survey forms part of the Decarbonisation Accelerated project, delivered by GW3 and funded by the Local Buying Foundation.

Businesses that complete the survey will automatically enter the draw to win a sustainability prize package valued at more than $650

The survey takes approximately five minutes to complete and closes on August 11.
