GW3 focussing on creating a digitally connected future.
To ensure the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region remains competitive in an increasingly digital world, Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) has appointed a Digital Projects Coordinator.
GW3 Chief Executive Officer Ms Kylie Porter said the core function of the Digital Projects Coordinator role will be to develop a regional digital roadmap and to manage the delivery of the Isaac Digital Connectivity Project to significantly improve connectivity in the Moranbah and Dysart communities.
“GW3 is pleased to welcome Vicki Smith to the team. Vicki has 20 years in marketing and is a strategic communication specialist.”
Mrs Smith has worked in and alongside businesses of all shapes and sizes in her career and is a professional communication and stakeholder specialist. “In addition to focusing on the Isaac Digital Connectivity project, Vicki will also coordinate activities to ensure a more digitally connected future for the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region by developing the region’s first Greater Whitsunday Digital Roadmap.
“It is vital for our region to be supported by robust digital infrastructure that will support key industries to evolve and embrace technology.
“Part of the region’s first Greater Whitsunday Digital Roadmap will provide a plan on how to move forward; tap into funding opportunities and to keep our region globally competitive,” Ms Porter said.
Mrs Smith said in today’s world, connectivity is essential infrastructure.
“We are in the thick of a digital revolution that will unquestionably become an even deeper part of our lives. “This era will demand reliable and unyielding connectivity to slingshot our region to the front of the line.”
Mrs Smith said her next steps were to better understand the opportunities and needs of the region; identify potential weakness in our current digital connectivity architecture; and extensive community consultation with working groups business and industry leaders and other key stakeholders.
“Having the capacity to act across our three great regions gives enormous potential for our future digital connectivity and best prepares us to capitalise on economic growth opportunities,” Mrs Smith said.
The Digital Projects Coordinator is funded through BHP’s Vital Resources Fund.
Greater Whitsunday Alliance is the region’s peak, independent economic development body committed to making the Mackay, Isaac, Whitsunday region strong for generations.
